Vensterklip Guest Farm

This impromptu, last minute camping trip lead us out to a quaint farm approximately 5kms outside of Elands Baai. Vensterklip is located along the West Coast of South Africa, just 220km north of Cape Town and lies amoungst a historic World Heritage site of outstanding natural beauty named Verlorenvlei. The farm is called “Vensterklip”, which translated from Afrikaans means stone window. They offer a wide range of accommodation from cottages to private camp sites and standard camps site, making this getaway suitable to all.

We went with the standard camp site which is individually screened and is approximately 7 x 8m with a braai area, electrical point and a light. All of the camps sites overlook the beautiful Verlorenvlei, with its many bird life including flamingos! There are shared ablutions and a washing area nearby [approximately 30m]. As this is a working farm there is also a restaurant, bar and picnic area for those travelling past to enjoy. Everything was very well maintained and a lot of love given to the detail.

Braai time - camping wouldn't quite be the same without cooking on the braai! We prepped home made gourmet burger patties by Justin Bonello, potatoes and coleslaw in the morning prior to leaving so that we were well equipped to relax. If you forget your wood behind there is a small farm stall on the property that sells the essentials.

Things got festive as the sun went down displaying an incredible sunset over Verlorenvlei. Some lite tunes, Ambeloui bubbles and marshmallows were thoroughly enjoyed! I think we have convinced Dan and Tess to join us more often on our camping expeditions! Nothing could beat being in the outdoors underneath millions of crystal stars, amazing friends and good food.

Our early bird Daniel [who you can follow on instagram @dan1elmyles for some amazing photography] enjoyed the sunrise and captured it for us lazy buggers who slept in!

After a light breakfast and some good coffee we all got showered, packed up and ready to go only to get STUCK. Literally our new baby got stuck in what felt like quick sand! After about 45 minutes of attempting to set her free we sought after Oom Chunkie from the Guest Farm who with much determination, a good sense of humour and a BIG 4x4 helped us get out of our rut! We will be forever grateful for his help and kind hearted nature in which it was given. A big thank you to everyone at Vensterklip Guest Farm for our incredible yet adventurous stay!
