Beaverlac

We have so been looking forwards to our next adventure since Imhoff Park and this one was to be a real treat in the beautiful Cederberg mountains adjoining the Groot Winterhoek Mountain Catchment Area. Beaverlac is a natural heritage site located at the base of the Dasklippas Pass. It is a long, slightly bumpy and steep, way down to the camping ground but WOW is it worth it. Be sure to make your booking in advance to avoid disappointment as no walk ins will be welcomed.

The camping ground itself is spread out over quite a vast amount of land so be sure to drive around before choosing the first spot you see.

There are lots of beautiful hikes in the mountain which are not to be missed. The one photographed below is the Leopard trail taking you up to the Totem pool which is approximately 1 to 1 1/2 hours of inclined walking hugging the river valley up to the top where you come upon the most incredible pool of crystal clear fresh mountain water. There are lots of little lizards and birds in and around the mountainous area.

We also went to go and investigate the main 'pool' area which was a big hit for all including our furry friends who found the perfect spot to lie in a pool of water. Here the kids enjoyed a bit of adventure jumping off the rock face into the water.

A few helpful pointers that all campers should know prior to arriving are:

- The sinks do not have plugs so be sure to either bring a plug or a wash basin to be able to clean your cutlery and utensils without wasting water!

- There is not always loo paper so bring your own 'bog roll'.

- There is also no place in the bathroom and showers to put any of your items down so a hanging bag of some sort is recommended.

- There are no electrical points at the sites, but you are able to plug your kettle in at a communal plug point in front of the shop to boil your kettle.

- The camp sites are also not demarcated and there is no guarantee that you will get a spot with a braai, so try get there early.

- The shop sells amazing braai wood for only R25 a bag and also stock endless supplies of ice!

- All the staff are incredibly helpful and friendly.

- You are allowed to bring your pet but be sure to register him/her first.

- There are four natural pools to choose from so don't forget your costumes!

All in all this is a gem of a campsite nestled quietly away and boost character and tranquility. Young, old, furry and adventurous will all enjoy!
