Cheesy Bacon Burgers with a twist original recipe by Justin Bonello, Roads Less Travelled
Who doesn't enjoy a great burger? We recently added Roads Less Travelled by Junstin Bonello, The Ultimate Braai Master to the collection so thought this was the best place to look for a good, wholesome burger recipe that can be done on the open flame.
There is a slight twist to his recipe just for ease and boy were they delicious!
Ingredients:
-
800 grams Ostrich Mince
-
1/2 Table spoon of each: ground coriander, cumin, paprika and dried oregano
-
1 Egg whisked
-
Splash of soya sauce
-
2 Table spoons crushed garlic
-
Salt and Pepper
-
Packet of streaky bacon
-
6 Fresh bread rolls
-
White cheddar, thinly sliced
-
Mayonaise [home made if possible]
Method:
This is a great recipe that can be made prior to leaving on your camping trip. Get a large bowl to mix your ingredients together that will make up your burger patties. Place the ostrich mince, herbs, whisked egg, splash of soya sauce, garlic and salt & pepper and mix together. Divide into 6 balls which will be flattened to make your patties. Remember that the patties will shrink slightly when cooked so ensure they are larger than required. Pack into air tight container and refrigerate ready for your road trip.
Set up your braai to cook the patties on a moderate to hot coal [not too hot]! Allow for 4 minutes per side or slightly longer if you prefer well done. Once the patties are done add the streaky bacon to your grid whilst the burgers rest. Once the bacon is crispy it is time to assemble!
Assembling the burger:
Cut open your fresh buns, lather in mayonaisse add the patty toped with cheese and bacon. Enjoy with braai cooked mash potatoe and cold slaw! Enjoy x
